Unirea Retail Store Refurbishment
The Unirea Store Bucharest renovation addressed the urgent need to revitalize an emblematic commercial structure, dating from the mid-20th century. The challenge lay in the complex refacing and refunctionalization of the building. The architectural concept opted for a functional and sober aesthetic, essential in the crowded urban context. The exterior facade was redefined through the use of ceramic cladding and a curtain wall, cleverly doubled by expanded metal mesh panels. This layering not only modulates natural light but also generates a dynamic visual texture, imparting depth and a contemporary character. The interior, now minimalist and functional, completes the design’s coherence, creating a modern atmosphere of remarkable spatial clarity. The project offers a new image to an important landmark of Bucharest’s commerce. Through this intervention, the outdated built heritage is updated, integrating harmoniously into the contemporary urban landscape and establishing a new aesthetic and functional standard.
