Moților Residential Building
Located in Cluj-Napoca, the M Collective Housing project addresses an essential urban challenge: establishing a respectful dialogue with the monument church designed by architect Kós Károly. The architectural intervention proposes a strategy for recycling outdated built stock, redefining the coherence of the urban fabric. The central concept, a fan-shaped setback, functions as a formal reverence towards the place of worship, facilitating a fluid transition from a closed street front to an open one. This subtle urban integration is crucial. The material palette, composed of exposed brick, stone, and glazed ceramic, gives the volumes a robust texture and a chromatic scheme that resonates with the austerity of Reformed architecture. Natural light, filtered through carefully calibrated openings, shapes the surfaces, accentuating the depth of the facades and creating a subtle dynamic throughout the day. Inside, the contemporary design adopts a neutral and warm aesthetic, offering a balanced contrast to the exterior rigor. The ensemble cultivates an austere atmosphere, in keeping with the historical neighborhood, dialoguing through substance and form, not through imitation. The project demonstrates a logical approach to the context.
